YOUTH EMPLOYMENT SERVICES (Y.E.S)

 

The Youth Employment Program provides youth ages 12 through 24 with opportunities to learn about the world of work through job training, life-skills development programs and full and part-time employment.

ANNUAL JOB FAIR & SUMMER EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM

Once you have submitted an approved application packet, identification and resume (which are available annually in April) you will be invited to the Job Fair. You MUST attend the Job Fair to be considered for a summer job.

 

GREENING PROJECT

An employment program designed to give 14-17 year olds a hands-on career experience via gardening, nutrition and an environmental education-based curriculum.

 

JUNIOR COUNSELOR TRAINING PROGRAM

This is a first time, paid job experience for those who love children. Participants work in local After School Centers as Teachers Aides Monday-Thursday and home work related skills on Fridays. Offered in 6-8 week cycles October-April.

 

WHITE PLAINS WORKS: CULINARY TRAINING PROGRAM

Provides youth 17 - 24 years of age with hands-on training and a paid field internship at a local restaurant. Participants will graduate with the skills and knowledge required for entry level employment in the culinary industry.

Training and Life-Skills Development Programs

BABYSITTERS TRAINING

Young people 11-16 can register for the 6 hour course to learn leadership, safety, basic care, and enhance their skills to start their own babysitting business. Click here for the registration form.

 

EXPLORING CAREER PATHWAYS

This lunchtime speaker series, offered at White Plains High School, targets various careers and offers youth the opportunity to hear from professionals who share their stories and tell them how to best prepare for their future. (Offered weekly in the College Career Center)

 

WESTCHESTER WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY FOR YOUTH (WWDAY)

In-school Program

Serves high school juniors and seniors and provides job training workshops, job placement, college preparatory workshops, college tours, personal development workshops, community service activities, and tutoring based on the specific needs of the student. To qualify youth are required to meet academic and/or income guidelines.

 

WESTCHESTER WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY FOR YOUTH (WWDAY)

Out-of-school Program

Created to serve 18 - 24 year olds and equip them with the skills needed to be successful in today's job market by providing job readiness training, life skills instruction, and occupational skills training.

 

Retail Skills Training

Participants 16-21 years of age learn the value of offering great customer service, meeting quality service standards, being able to communicate effectively with employees and customers, learning and comprehending store policies and practices, preparing merchandise, and a host of other useful skills.

 

To receive a Certificate of Completion, the individual must commit to the entire 6-week program.

 

Office Skills Training

Today's workplace is competitive. Whether you are new to an office environment or have prior experience, this training will prepare you for success.

 

Learn the fundamentals: Phone and office etiquette, customer service and professionalism, in addition to a host of other clerical skills.

 

To receive a Certificate of Completion, the individual must commit to the entire 6-week program.
